Victim’s family sees video of officer-involved shooting

police shooting in central el paso. today abc-7 obtained surveillance video of last week’s shooting near dyer street from the owner of player’s billiards. abc-7’s darren hunt showed that video to the victim’s family today … he’s live with reaction … darren. estela, police told us last thursday, the night of the incident, that this was an officer- involved shooting. almost a week later, police are still not releasing any more information. today i showed the video to charlie bertram’s mother and widow. “this was a big deal and my camera caught it so.” michael corren is owner of player’s billiards on dyer. he showed us this video of last week’s shooting that left 22-year-old charlie bertram dead. the video, which we have edited for time purposes, shows a police unit approach. bertram is in the white t- shirt. at one point, he appears to reach inside the car. that’s when the officer backs up and appears to pull his weapon. bertram backs up and then his body seems to jerk, then he spins and runs away… the officer chasing him. “this is the parking lot behind players that the security footage shows … the incident happened in the corner of the parking lot … the man ran all the way over to the hair play salon and spa where he collapsed … he was later pronounced dead at university medical center.” we shared the vide with the bertram family. “they shot him, oh my god … they shot him … … its ok baby, we’re gonna get justice for you …i promise you that.” anna richburg is bertram’s mother and miranda rosario is his wife. “he ran away, he ran away … h was not a threat to anybody.” “i just can’t believe it, i can’t believe it, i’m in shock … i’m very hurt.” “what would you like to see don here?” “justice, answers … i wan closure, i want closure too … ” “is there a reason why chucki would have ran?” “because he’s scared of polic probably.” “did chuckie carry a gun, did h have a gun?” “as far as i know, what the police officer told me yes … that i know, no … ” “so the police told you he had gun.” “yes. we checked court records and bertram had multiple run-ins with police, including four arrests just this year. his mother admitted he had a warrant for his arrest. we had several questions for police, but they told us the investigation is ongoing and would provide nothing further. estela.
