Mayfield Coaching Legend Jim Bradley Dies
Legendary Mayfield head coach Jim Bradley has died. Sources close to the Bradley family confirmed to KVIA he died at his home with his family by his side. Bradley was in hospice care.
Bradley coached for 47 years. He won 310 games, a state record at the time of his retirement, and 7 state championships. Five of his championships came as the coach of Mayfield (1971, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2005) and the other two were with Roswell (1987-88).
Bradley graduated from Las Cruces high and played football for New Mexico State. In 1973, he was hired as the head coach of the Aggies. He coached NMSU until 1977 and compiled a 23-31-1 record.
Current NMSU head coach Doug Martin offered his condolences. “The Aggie family gives our sympathy to the Bradley family in their loss,” Martin said in a statement. “Coach Bradley was a great Aggie and had a tremendous impact on our community and the state, not only as a coach but as a role model and mentor.”
Bradley is a member of the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame.
