Get your geek on at Border City Comic Con this weekend, other conventions in coming months

Instead of “Avengers assemble,” it might be more appropriate to say “comic cons convene” in the El Paso-Las Cruces area.

The Border City Comic Con will have its convention today through Sunday, the 16th at the Wyndham Airport Hotel.

“We are not the only game in town just the best,” organizers wrote on the Border City Comic Con page on Aug. 9. “Come and see why we make that claim and judge for yourself. Support your local Comic Con.”

The guest of honor for Border City Comic Con is Rich Buckler, a painter, comic book writer, editor, penciler and inker who has over a career spanning 40-plus years with Marvel, DC comics and others. Actors Deep Roy and Richard Harmon, and comic book writer Bob Layton are just a few of the guests who will appear Border City Comic Con. Tickets are $10 for today, $20 for Saturday, and $15 for Sunday or $35 for a three-day pass and are available at the door. For more information, https://www.facebook.com/BorderCityComicCon

The Las Cruces Comic Con will be Sep. 11-13 at the Las Cruces Convention Center. Guests include actor Tiny Lister, Jae Lee is a Korean-American comic book artist, cosplayer/YouTuber Ginny DiGuiseppi, and cosplayer Kat Ashley. Tickets: 3 Day Pass, $35, grants you access to the convention all three days. Friday Pass, $10, this pass will grant you access to Las Cruces Comic Con on Friday Night (Preview Night).
Saturday Pass, $25, this pass grants you access to Las Cruces Comic Con on Saturday. Sunday Pass, $20, this pass will grant you access Las Cruces Comic Con on Sunday. For more information, http://lascrucescomiccon.org/

Sun City Scifi will have its Fan Expo Oct. 17-18 at the Camino Real in Downtown El Paso. Guests include Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols, actor Verne Troyer (known for the character “Mini-Me), actor Karan Ashley (former yellow Power Ranger), and Clive Revill (known for role as the Emperor in Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back and voice work). El Paso Comic Con (EPCON) is sitting this year out but will come back in 2016 under new management/ownership by the folks who put on the Las Cruces Comic Con. EPCON is set for April 15-17 at the convention center in Downtown El Paso. Guests have not been announced.
