EPISD’s Penny Swap approved by voters

your voice your vote. the people of episd are celebrating tonight. the latest voting results show voters overwhelmingly approved the penny swap. here’s a look at the latest numbers. these aren’t the final numbers. more than 6-thousand voters or 80% voted in favor of the penny swap with 77 of 92 precints reporting. 16-hundred or 19% voted against the penny swap. passing the item would allow the district to move tax funds from one budget to another. the approval would also mean the district could access up to nine million dollars in matching state funds. abc-7’s jerry najera is live with more on what this means for the district … evan josie this penny swap election had an odd name but officials at the district say the approval of the swap would have a tremendous impact for the district . officials say this approval will move three cents from the portion of the e-p-i-s-d tax rate that pays for debt… and move it into the portion of the tax rate that pays for day-to-day operations. the district promised voters the swap will have zero impact on the overall tax rate … which would remain impact on the overall tax rate … which would remain at one dollar and 23-and-a-half cents per $100 dollars of home valuation. we spoke to district superintendent juan cabrera earlier and asked now that the penny swap has been approved, how soon the distrcit could see the impact.. 2:25 ” we’ll immediately star making g sure that the raises start going into effect on monday so we’ll work so this goes in on a payroll perspective we just started the month and we pay at the end of the month and we pay on the 15th so our goal is to get it at the end of this month.”2:50″ jerry thank you. we have complete coverage of the penny swap election and what it means for taxpayers online
