High School FB: Two A Days – Eastwood
tonight’s story takes place at eastwood high school … after an 8 year drought… the eastwood troopers returned to the playoffs in 2014… a first round playoff loss left the team hungry for more… the players believe this is their year… they expect more… and more is expected of them… rodriguez: “it’s awesome to finally hear that eastwood is getting a little bit of respect. we’re getting the respect that we’ve worked for. we’re ready to take on whoever steps on the field with us.” this year’s edition of the troopers returns 13 starters from a season ago. they also have a new head coach: 25 year old julio lopez, who is the youngest head coach in 11-man uil football. lopez: “it’ amazing to hear that in all of the state of texas, i’m the youngest, but if we don’t have the success that we drive for and strive for with these kids, then at the end of the day it doesn’t mean anything.” what wil help the team reach it’s potential is it’s chemistry… that’s where coach lopez’s youth becomes an advantage… lopez: “being able to relate to them i definitely a plus. not being that much older, i know some of the problems these guys go through or some of the distractions they go through. i can talk with them not just about football, but really anything.” torrez: “he just know more situations. he knows of our struggles trying to get into college. just being on the field, because he wasn’t off the field that long ago.” contreras: “i li the environment he puts us all in. he’s really enthusiastic and he makes everyone want to play better than they already are.” coach lopez’s youthful exuberance may be exactly what the up and coming troopers need to take the next step… there is no doubt they have the talent to challenge for a district title … and maybe even more… eastwood opens its season against chapin next friday… you can find all of our two a days features on our website… kvia dot com… on monday, we’ll take a look at eastwood’s district rival, el dorado… the nfl preseason continues…
