Companies chosen for trolley project

seeing trolleys in el paso again. the camino real regional mobility authority has selected the companies behind the project. abc-7’s josie ortegon has new information. “nats” it’s been nearly years since these streetcars roamed el paso. and we’re now one step closer to seeing them move from this pile of junk… back to the sun city’s streets. “nats abc- seven confirmed the companies responsible for building and maintaing the new railcars and tracks were just selected, which clears the way for the highly anticipated construction. “nats” f 19-million dollars, brookville equipment company will remanufacture 6 of the 9 original cars. the cars will be shipped out to pennsylvannia in january, where they”ll be remodeled. and for 54 million, paso del norte trackworks, a joint venture between granite construction and railworks track systems, will build the track, power stations and storage facility. since the entire project is budgeted for 97-million dollars … that means there’s another 24 million dollars to spend. “once we hi milestones, with paso del norte, that will free up part of our contingency, and with that extra priority will be to add a 7th vehicle.” the track wil run 4.8 miles and will include 28 stops stand-up “there will be two routes, th downtown loop and the uptown loop. the uptown loop will run from the transfer center, through west el paso near utep.” “the cars will then head back toward downtown, loop around buisnesses, restaurants, hotels and the ballpark and then back to the transfer center.” sot- “it’ connecting major areas of commerce and entertainment that we need connected.” onc closer to completion–sun metro will decide logistics and fees. in the next two months–the camino real regional mobility authority will finalize contracts and a completion date. and in january–constructi on and remanufacturing will begin. jo, abc7. a major announcement regarding
