First Look at Upcoming Westside Pool
first look — at the proposed westside pool, a quality of life bond project. the 50-meter competion pool will be located next to the leo cancellare recreation center off wallenberg in west el paso. today, city council learned the pool’s design phase is 90 percent complete. after the design is completed, the city will begin to bid out the project for construction. today, we’re getting our first look at what the building that will house the pool will look like. city officials involved in the project say the building is designed to grab people’s attention. the goal is to open the pool in early 2017: tracey jerome: “this is something he felt really strongly about as do we — to make sure that the artwork is not just there as icing but it’s actually integral to the design so it’s going to be functional, it’s going to be beautiful, it’s going to provide shade, and it’s going to really announce the entrance onto the space. it’s going to be very interactive as well. the work that he creates is very practical, it’s very industrial, but it’s really aesthetically inviting and so i think it’s really going to bring people in.” the pool was originally budgeted at $8 million dollars. its price tag has now increased to $13 million dollars. in the past, the city told abc-7 it was going to make up the difference by shifting 3-point-5 million from two proposed westside parks that are now on hold. the city manager is trying to find 1-point-5 million dollars – in savings from other projects. don’t go anywhere. a final look at weather is coming up
