canine behavior issues and canine obesity in america. its purpose is to improve the health and well-being of america’s dogs and their people. just like people, dogs need exercise to stay physically and mentally healthy. lack of exercise can result in serious canine behavior issues such as aggression, destruction and separation anxiety. often dogs run away from because they are kept sequestered for long periods of time in a crate, apartment or house. this coupled with an unhealthy diet will lead to obesity, and other medical issues such as pancreatitis, diabetes, heart disease and the number 1 killer of dogs – cancer. walking your dog every day increases endorphins and stimulates his natural curiosity, his tactile and olfactory senses, and his mind. walking your dog for just 30 minutes a day, will help decrease behavior problems, will make him feel better and will help the two of you bond. in addition, you will feel better too! taking the entire family along for the walks teaches children the importance of proper dog guardianship. according to the american veterinary association, 40% of all dogs are overweight, and we all know that obesity in the humane population has created a slew of health problems too. so, take an opportunity to take your dog for a walk this week. you will both benefit from the experience. remember – a tired dog is a very good thing!
