Horizon City hit by tons of quarter-sized hail

Quarter-sized hail hit Horizon City around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, forcing residents to scramble to seek shelter.

Resident Hector Ruiz told ABC-7 he was driving home when the storm hit. Worried about damage to his car, Ruiz drove quickly to park it under the carport.

“It hit so fast, ” Ruiz said. “It looked like snow.”

Other residents said they were worried about damage to their cars, some even using blankets to cover the windows.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies were called out, including emergency crews, to help divert traffic on Horizon Road, covering in the grape-size hail.
