Cold Case Update: 76-year-old woman charged with murder in husband’s death going to trial Wednesday
The cold-case arrest announced by El Paso Police this week comes the same week 76-year-old Lisbeth Garrett is set to go on trial.
Lisbeth was arrested two years ago in a separate cold case.
The former Eastwood High school teacher is accused of killing her husband, Fort Bliss Army Maj. Chester Garrett back in 1977.
Prosecutors say Lisbeth and her son, Roger Garrett, beat and stabbed Chester in their East El Paso Home.
Roger was Chester’s stepson.
Lisbeth and Roger were arrested in February 2013 when Lisbeth and Chester’s biological son, Patrick, broke his silence.
ABC-7 spoke with a man who played on Chester’s little league team all those years ago.
“He was always there for you if you needed just to talk to him,” said Herman Delgado, who was on the team and knew Chester. “He was just a big guy with a huge heart — a gentle giant.”
Roger was sentenced to 40 years in prison in October 2013 for his role in killing his stepfather.
He’ll be eligible for parole in 11 years.
