Downtown Arena Contracts

The city will soon be looking to buy the land where the Multipurpose Arena Project will sit. El Paso City Council authorized the city manager, Tommy Gonzalez, to sign all the contracts on behalf of the city. That means he won’t have to come back to council for permission every time he needs to sign a new contract as long as he stays within the project’s budget. It’s not the first time the city has done this. They did this once before during construction of the downtown ballpark. Gonzalez will still have to comply with all the procurement laws. The only difference is he won’t have to bring them back to council every week. He’ll be able to sign contracts for appraisers, surveyors, and anything else they need to get ready for buying the real estate. The only stipulation is that he stays within the $50,000 budget.
