Crash cuts off power in East El Paso

An early morning car crash is being blamed for a power outage in East El Paso Monday.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Joe Battle and Montana. Police say a woman driving a Dodge Charger crashed into a pole in front of a nearby Peter Piper Pizza. Police say the woman told them that she fell asleep at the wheel. Police took her into custody when they say they found she had previous warrants out for her arrest.

According to an online map, El Paso Electric says about 3500 customers were affected by the outage. Power was restored around 4 a.m.
