Students forced to evacuate dorm at NMSU after reports of suspicious device

Students at New Mexico State University’s Pinion Hall were forced to evacuate early Tuesday morning after reports of a suspicious package.

According to the university’s webpage, an emergency notification went out to students just after midnight stating, “A suspicious device has been found at Pinon Hall, northeast gate. Police are on the scene. Please avoid the area until the scene is determined to be safe.”

Students were asked to evacuate the dorm as police investigated the scene.

Just after 1:30 a.m. the university gave an update via the emergency notification system saying the situation was “all clear,” and “all residents to A Patio Pinion Hall can return to their rooms. Police and fire operations have been completed.”

No word yet on the contents of the package.
