NMSU Football: Andrew Allen Honors His Father

school, just south of houston… he earned a scholarship to new mexico state and has played well for the aggies… his play is all the more impressive when you consider what he’s gone through in the last month… he was part of what would become an incredible night for the aggies and their fans… on halloween night… andrew allen had 392 yards of total offense and threw 3 touchdowns and helped the aggies snap a nation-worst 17 game losing streak… that same night… his father… marlon police chief darrell allen… was working security at a bar in temple… around 1:30am… allen was trying to restrain a man who had become violent… chief allen was shot in the head … allen: “i was at an all time high. then, getting a call from my sister, i couldn’t do anything but pray for everything to be okay.” chief allen fought for his life for 9 days but died on november 10th… police arrested the suspect … but that does little to ease the pain of his family.. allen: “he wa a great man. he had a big smile just as big as he was. he was goofy all the time. he was a good role model. i’m going to miss him.” o saturday… chief allen was laid to rest … but even in the one of the sadest times of his life… an emotional andrew allen got in a car and made the trip from texas city to lafayette… to play in his father’s honor … allen: “before th idaho game, my father did tell me that he was going to be in attendance at the lafayette game. that was with me the whole time, just to go out there and play for him and play for my family.” with a marlon poilice department shirt under his uniform… andrew allen threw 4 touchdown passes against lafayette and the aggies won their third straight game… allen: “i really wanted to go out there and honor my father and all of the officers across the nation.” there’s some added perspective when it comes to winning a football game… but it is here where andrew allen can heal … and while he does that… somewhere, his father can watch and be proud… andrew allen earned the sunbelt conference player of the week award for his performance against lafayette… allen says his father is his hero and he plans to join law enforcement … truly an incredible story… while we’re
