Father-Son Combo Has Final Shot at State for Las Cruces

cruces … las cruces high school is one win away from returning to the state championship game… they won state in 2013… teams always pride themselves on creating a culture of family… for the bulldawgs… that part came easy… it began four years ago… jim miller… coaching his only son, kameron… they won a state title together 2 years ago against arch rival mayfield… now, their time together as coach and player is winding down … jim: “i don’t think we realize it. it’s in the back of your mind knowing this is coming to an end, but how we react, i don’t know because it hasn’t ended yet. we don’t want it to end.” there were plenty of arguments… as fathers and sons tend to have… but also lots of success… and a lifetime’s worth of memories… and they’ve come to understand each other … kameron: “we’re the same guys. we don’t like to get yelled at, we don’t like to get talked back to. we’re the exact same. if he was my age, we’d be twins.” coach miller’ office is riddled with photos … memoirs from his time with kameron dating all the way back to when kameron was a little boy… these memories are special… because they shared them with each other…. this time next year… kameron will be at u-nm… but before that…there’s still time to make new memories… one last chance to win a state championship together … jim: “i’m so thankful for him and these last four years and everything he has given me since he was four years old and playing.” kameron: “i just tha him for everything he’s done for me. it’s tough leaving him next year along with my mom and my sisters, but he’s going to be with me. he’s going to be with me forever.” forever begins now… and what will be the final weeks of their time together as coach and player are here… but the bonds of father and son are stronger than ever… las cruces takes on eldorado tomorrow for a trip to state… the eastlake falcons are
