UPDATE: Centennial High School football coach seriously injured in I-25 crash Thursday
Oct. 27, 2015 Update: Roger Gray, a coach on the football staff for Centennial High School, was seriously hurt in a crash Thursday morning, according to the team’s booster club Facebook page.
The Centennial community held a prayer vigil for Gray Thursday night,
New Mexico State Police have not identified Gray as the man taken to UMC in El Paso in critical condition.
But the school and state police report Gray was the passenger in a truck that hydroplaned in the rain and rolled off the freeway off I-25.
Centennial (11-0) hosts Moriarty (9-2) at 7 p.m. today, Nov. 27 at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces in the first of two Class 5A semifinal playoff games.
Oct. 26, 2015 Story: A single-vehicle crash near mile marker 5 on Interstate 25 between Lohman and Highway 70 happened about 7:15 a.m. Thursday.
New Mexico State Police say that two teens were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. The vehicle is a late model pickup truck with Texas license plates.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The passenger was seriously injured and may not survive.
It is believed the truck hydroplaned and left the road, and ended up 110 feet from where it left the freeway. There was heavy rain at the time of the crash. Alcohol was not involved, and it is not known if the two passengers were wearing seat belts.
NMSP continues to investigation the crash. No arrests or charges are expected as of yet. The driver of the vehicle was flown to UMC hospital.
UPDATE: Centennial HS Football Facebook page has confirmed the injured driver of the car was Kameron Berkley, a football player. The passenger, his uncle, is in serious condition at UMC.
