Fire from controlled burn spreads, destroys trailer south of Las Cruces

Fire from a controlled burn spread and destroyed a mobile home used for storage Wednesday afternoon in Brazito south of Las Cruces.

Crews with the Doa Ana County Fire and Emergency Services were called to about 5:15 p.m. to the 700 block of Las Maanitas. When they arrived, the mobile home was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 40 minutes, but the mobile home was a total loss, officials said. Damage is estimated at approximately $6,500.

A neighbor who was trying to help extinguish the fire was treated and released by medical personnel at the scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
