Ethics commission meets tonight to discuss city Rep. Larry Romero, City Manager Tommy Gonzalez
El Paso City Council’s Ethics Commission is meeting Wednesday night to investigate a complaint against Rep. Larry Romero and City Manager Tommy Gonzalez. The formal complaint was by Jim Tolbert, Romero’s opponent in the 2013 runoff election.
Tolbert is asking the commission to investigate the relationship between Romero and Gonzalez and how it may have affected key decisions such as repairing certain city streets, installing speed humps in front of Cathedral High, Romero’s alma mater, and the financial adviser contract, in which Romero’s former company, Estrada Hinojosa, was chosen.
Tonight ABC-7 expects to learn how this investigation will be affected by Romero’s resignation and whether he’ll have to answer its questions. If the commission finds Gonzalez and Romero were somehow involved in wrongdoing, they could face sanctions and Gonzalez could lose his job.
