Las Palmas Medical Center announced new CEO

Las Palmas Medical Center has announced Don Karl as its new chief executive officer Friday. Karl has been serving as interim CEO since June of 2015.

Karl has served as chief operating officer of Las Palmas Medical Center, where he oversaw day-to-day operations and managed many of the hospital’s expansions including the emergency department and the intensive care unit.

He also helped recruit new physicians to the hospital to advance the hospital’s care capabilities in various fields.

Prior to his role at Las Palmas Medical Center, Karl previously served as CEO of Healthcare Diagnostic Center in El Paso.

Karl began his career in health care more than 30 years ago after earning a bachelors degree in business administration from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. He went on to earn his Master of Business Administration from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.

“Don has been a proven leader of Las Palmas Medical Center for almost 20 years, and we’re grateful he will continue this leadership as CEO,” David Huffstutler, CEO of Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, said. “We look forward to the many valuable contributions he will make to the organization.”

Karl replaces Hank Hernandez, Las Palmas’ long-time CEO, who left in June to become CEO of The Hospitals of Providence’s Transmountain Campus hospital now under construction in Northwest El Paso.
