“donald has a base of support but the majority of our party doesn’t want him as our nominee” republicans will caucus in nevada today and donald trump is already in the lead. we have the latest on the race –plus why ted cruz was forced to fire a top campaign staffer. / the uber driver who went on a shooting rampage has formally been charged–new details about what he told investigators. and back here in the borderland–new restrictions may be put in place for city council members…what they may not be allowed to have during meetings. / “winds gusts” after a weekend of nice weather — our week started off windy in the borderland. this is video shot over in northeast el paso . you can see the blowing dust those strong winds caused. and the wind brought some cooler temperatures for the next few days. a very good morning el paso, las cruces, and juarez. i’m stephanie valle. and i’m hillary floren. good morning, everyone. a back door cold front will bring some scattered rain and snow showers to the sacramento mountains today…with cooler temperatures and northerly breezes elsewhere. below normal temperatures will persist through wednesday…but warmer and drier conditions will return thursday and through the weekend. it’s gop caucus day in nevada. republican presidential frontrunner donald trump has 2 big wins under his belt — and he’s hoping for a third, just one week before super tuesday. tonight, it’s a town hall for the democrats before this weekend’s south carolina democratic primary. abc’s kenneth moton has the breakdown from washington. it’s your voice, your vote. it’s caucus time in nevada. sot donald trump 11:40:33 we’re going to make america great again! and we’re going to keep winning,winning, winning! overnight gop frontrunner donald trump rallied his biggest crowd yet in las vegas. the billionaire is banking on a hot streak that will carry him through super tuesday and to the gop nomination as he continued attacking his rivals. sot donald trump this guy cuz lies more than any other human being the fight getting nasty. ted cruz fired his communications director for spreading a false rumor that marco rubio had disparaged the bible. sot ted cruz we will conduct this campaign with the very highest standards of integrity but rubio is focused on trump who is leading in nevada by 26 points. his apparent unstoppable rise has the republican establishment rallying around rubio. sot marco rubio 22:50:21 donald has a base of support but the majority of our party doesn’t want him as our nominee the democratic contenders were on opposite sides of the country. in front of more than 8 thousand people at the university of massachusetts amherst, bernie sanders again hit hillary clinton on her wall street connection. sot bernie sanders we do not represent corporate america…we don’t want their money speaking of money, clinton spent the day fundraising in la. she was in the middle of scandal…the set… sitting next to leading man tony goldwyn who plays the fictional president on the hit abc show. clinton has a comfortable lead against sanders in south carolina. as the two work to court the black vote in the state, actor morgan freeman’s voice is being used in a clinton tv ad. sanders answered with an endorsement from spike lee who will be featured in radio spots airing today. kenneth moton, abc news washington abc -7 with new information this morning… the uber driver in kalamazoo michigan that gunned down six randomly chosen victims has admitted to the killings. any reason as to why, is still a mystery. police say jason dalton carried out the attacks over several hours, at which he was still taking passengers around town. he appeared in court monday and is now facing 16 charges …including six counts of murder, and eight firearms charges. he’s being held without bail… although dalton told investigators, he quote…”took people’s lives,” prosecutor said a motive may never fully be known. happening today– city council members could be banned from using all personal electronic devices. one representative supports the idea. good morning el paso’s denise olivas is live with the details… new this morning. denise? no personal cell phones or tablets– and no tweeting or emailing. right now– that’s allowed during council meetings. today the issue will be up for discussion. council members could amend a rule that allows them to do so. city rep michiel noe is in full support. another city rep– claudia ordaz supports it too. last year an open records request was made for her to release private texts. it was revealed that during a council meeting– county commissioner vince perez’s aide was sitting in on a meeting and was tellling her what to say during a council discussion. “we’ve seen in the past a particular upsurge in a lot of communication outside of what the public has access to, we’re trying to change that so it’s more transparent” ordaz volutarily released her messages from her private phone. but a texas law says she didn’t have to and the city couldn’t have taken the information without her permission. from our new mexico mobile newsroom — an elderly woman is dead after being hit from our new mexico mobile newsroom — an elderly woman is dead after being hit by an s-u-v in las cruces. it happened around 8 o’clock last night on the 900 block of south telshor. police say the 63- year-old woman was not at a crosswalk when she was hit. the driver of the suv remained at the scene and told police he never saw her. police say the woman was wearing dark clothing. she was taken to the hospital where she later died. the driver of the suv will not be facing any charges. also in new mexico… traffic at an intersection in sunland park will be back to normal today after an overturned semi caused backup for several hours. it happened yesterday on mcnutt road and sunland park drive just before 11 a.m. the driver of the semi was cited and there were no injuries. an elderly man has died after his car was hit by another vehicle. police say the victim ran a red light. the crash happened last tuesday on the 73-hundred block of alameda in el paso’s lower valley. police say 83-year-old fidencio camacho was stopped at a red light at durrill and alameda but then began to move into the intersection. his car ended up getting hit by a truck. camacho was taken to university medical center where he later died. now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… we still have much more to come here on good morning el paso…. “they take a risk if they ski over any state. people will rember that.” super tuesday is just one week away and texas is one of the many states holding a primary. abc-7 spoke with an expert about the lone star state’s influence in the elections. and -the death toll has gone up after a powerful cyclone hit a chain of islands over the weekend–so when will relief be on the way?
