Chihuahuas have increased ticket prices for 2016
It’s going to cost more to go to El Paso Chihuahuas games at Southwest University Park this season.
The club has increased individual advanced tickets several dollars in some sections.
The Chihuahuas are well aware after just two seasons they are the toughest ticket in town. And now a new way of scaling prices, by day of the week, means fans will pay more for many seats this season.
Chihuahuas tickets went on sale last weekend and all seats are already sold for the San Diego Padres exhibition and Opening Day. Only standing room only tickets remain for those two games.
The Chihuahuas have kept grass tickets at $5 and season seats can still be purchased starting at $7.50 per seat per game. Individual advanced tickets, however, now range from $8 to as high as $30. A low-end $8 to $10 seat last year will now cost $11 to $15 dollars, depending on the day. And a high-end $25 seat behind home plate from last year, will now cost you up to $30.
“It’s unfortunate that it’s gone up and I think for the El Paso Community, you know, we need a break,” Chihuahuas fan Tommy Hernandez said. “For the last couple years they’ve seen that El Paso has supported the Chihuahuas and it’s a shame that it’s gone up so much.”
Chihuahuas General Manager Brad Taylor had this to say about the increase: “There’s virtually no sports or entertainment entity that sits flat. Expenses rise, other things … The other thing is we’re investing in the show.”
Here’s the daily breakdown: Individual advanced tickets increased this season from $1 to $3 in all but two sections for Sunday through Wednesday games. They’re up $2 to $5 in all sections for Thursday and Friday games and Saturday seats will cost you $4 to $7 more.
Overall, ABC-7 found Chihuahuas ticket prices consistent with the rest of the 16-team Pacific Coast League. Not all clubs are selling individual game tickets yet, but we found cheap seats ranging from $8 to $11 and premium locations between $27 and $40.
“The rest of the Pacific Coast League doesn’t have this kind of facility, doesn’t have the same kind of entertainment value we provide here with the Chihuahuas,” Taylor added.
Tickets purchased on game day will be $2 to $3 more expensive. A family of four will now pay from $16 to $28 dollars more for advanced tickets for a Saturday game, depending on the section.
This isn’t the first time the Chihuahuas have raised ticket prices. Last year they increased tickets $1 in several sections and beer prices 50 cents.
