at super tuesday in this abc-7 listens. the turnout in el paso county for tuesday’s primaries was actually better than i expected. it was 21 percent … which means approximately 84- thousand voters out of about 400- thousand registered voters cast a ballot. 28- thousand of those voters … opted to take part in the republican primary … that was a big increase from past elections. darryn is a registered republican voter, but … “… there were a few democrats that i would have liked to vote for especially morales for the district attorney’s office who was not on my ballot. “how ca i be denied to vote for a particular candidate just because he is a democrat and i just happen to be registered as a republican? “all ballot should contain all candidates not just who is affiliated with a particular party. “please let me kno how this works and why it is done this way.” daryn you admitted you are a republican … so why should you have a say in which democrat moves on to the general election? the point here is the parties are asking their members whom they want to represent them in the general election. the rules from the parties and to vote in their primary you first have to press a button certifying that you are a member of that party. and frankly … the fear is someone with nefarious intent might chose to vote for the candidate they believe their party might have the best chance of beating … not the candidate they truly support. as far as independents … you’ll get your chance to vote for them during the general election in november. what we just experienced was the democratic and republican primaries … it’s put on by those parties and it’s not meant for independents. rick cabrera. abc-7 listens. comedian louis c-k
