Mesilla Park Man Indicted on Criminal Sexual Penetration

District Attorney Mark D’Antonio announced Tuesday that a grand jury has indicted a Mesilla Park man charged with sexually assaulting two young family members.

Alfonso Jimenez Sr., 78, was recently indicted on two counts of criminal sexual penetration, both first-degree felonies. He was also indicted on one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor in the second degree and one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor in the third degree.

According to detectives with the Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Department, Jimenez was arrested last month at his home in Mesilla Park. Authorities said he allegedly engaged in sexual acts with two female family members who were both under the age of 12 when the crimes happened.

Criminal documents obtained by ABC-7 state the alleged sexual assault happened in December 2013 at a picnic area in Mesilla Park. It states the girls were seven and eight-years-old at the time of the incident. The girls told investigators that Jimenez had offered them candy. That’s when they said he began kissing them, which led to touching them, and touching them inappropriately. Documents state the girls said Jimenez then performed oral sex on the two.

D’Antonio said “Protecting the children of Doa Ana County needs to be everyone’s top priority. If convicted as charged, the defendant could face substantial time behind bars and would have to register as a sex offender.”

The 78-year-old faces 18 years in prison for each first-degree felony, 15 years behind bars for the second-degree felony and six years of incarceration for the third-degree felony.
