New baseball and softball academy introduced for El Paso
EL PASO, TX- A longtime vision of prominent physician and youth baseball advocate, Dr. Dwayne Aboud, is about to become a reality. In association with former El Paso Chihuahuas manager and current Milwaukee Brewers coach, Pat Murphy, Executive Director of the El Paso Border Youth Athletic Association, Gary Sotir and Director of Baseball Operations, Steve Sotir and Dr. Aboud have established the Pat Murphy Baseball and Softball Academy – Chihuahuas NeXt. The academy will consist of an indoor facility adjacent to an eight field baseball and softball complex.
“I absolutely love El Paso and the chance to remain connected to a city and professional baseball organization that means so much to me. Allowing me to help create opportunities for our kids in the El Paso region really drives me,” Pat Murphy said, Milwaukee Brewers bench coach.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Dwayne Aboud, Pat Murphy, Steve Sotir and the El Paso Chihuahuas leadership group on such a necessary and important project for the kids in our communities,” said Gary Sotir, Executive Director of the El Paso Border Youth Athletic Association.
The Pat Murphy Baseball and Softball Academy will offer various membership programs to be inclusive of all skill levels under the name Chihuahuas NeXt to highlight the support and association with the El Paso Chihuahuas Triple-A Baseball Club. Additionally, the Pat Murphy Baseball and Softball Academy – Chihuahuas NeXt will offer camps, clinics, team and individual instruction, tournament hosting and individual recreational usage.
“The Chihuahuas are honored to partner with the Border Youth Athletic Association and former Chihuahuas Manager Pat Murphy to create a perpetuating program for young athletes in the El Paso region,” said Chihuahuas General Manager Brad Taylor.
Location of the Academy and fields is planned for land in northeast El Paso in close proximity to Cohen Stadium. Construction will begin shortly after the land acquisition is completed.
