? 1:52 we’ll be praying for all of them. for the whole family for everybody that loves him” 1:5 4:05″ h was always a family man. always talking about his wife and his kids 4:13 thanks for joining us for abc-seven at noon. i’m denise olivas. and i’m stephanie valle. the funeral mass for el paso police officer david ortiz is underway. today– family, friends and fellow officers in blue say farewell to the nine-year veteran of the force. we have crews all through el paso’s lower valley we have a crew at saints peter and paul catholic church where officer david ortiz’s funeral mass is underway. photojournalist david avila is at ysleta high school where the entire student body will join in the front lawn to honor officer ortiz. and photojournalist shaun felice is at mount carmel cemetery where the fallen officer will be laid to rest. officer ortiz’s funeral started yesterday with a memorial at sunset funeral home on north loop. there were so many people in attendance– many were forced to stand outside. now let’s continue our complete coverage with reporter darren hunt where hundreds of family friends are gathered right now in socorro. darren? denise and stephanie, its a very somber mood out here in socorro with the funeral service now underway here at saints peter and paul catholic church. an overflow crowd has gathered to pay their last respects to officer ortiz … ortiz was 45 years old. he was a nine- year veteran of the el paso police department but also served the socorro and horizon police departments prior to that. ortiz was a 1988 graduate of ysleta high school. his funeral procession will drive past ysleta high prior to his burial at mount carmel cemetery this afternoon. that should be quite an emotional scene. denise will have more on the funeral processio in just a moment. this was the scene about 30 minutes ago as ortiz’s hearse arrived at the church, led by his fellow motorcycle patrol officers. ortiz leaves behind a wife, a son and a daughter, which makes this even more tragic. he was at a red light when a fast-moving car rear view ended him back on march 10th. he died monday at a local hospital. no charges have been filed against that driver at this time. family friend gabriel payan had this to say about ortiz’s loss: 4:13 i think the community lost quite a bit. you know, because he was a police officer in socorro, horizon and then in el paso. so as you can tell by the out pour here, i think it’s going to be a great loss to the community” 4:27 the service for officer ortiz is now underway here in socorro. hundreds, if not thousands have gathered here to pay their respects. the family has requested that we not enter the church today … but we will bring you complete coverage of officer ortiz’s funeral and procession coming up in our 4, 5 and 6 o’clock newscasts. denise and stephanie. here is a look at the funeral procession once the mass is over. a police escort will take officer ortiz west on north loop to yarbrough– south on yarbrough to alameda– and then east on alameda toward ysleta high school– officer ortiz’s alma mater. police say drivers should expect closures and delays until about two this afternoon. at ysleta high school is where officer ortiz will be honored by hundreds of students. photojournalist david avila has been there all morning– and he spoke with some students about today’s solemn day: “it’s a great thing… always a indian” ysleta officials say ortiz was a 1988 graduate of ysleta. shortly we’ll see students including organizations like the drum corps and jrotc fill the lawn. we’re told the students will stand out there in silence until every car in the procession
