Las Cruces man found wearing disguise after allegedly threatening to kill wife

A blond hairpiece wasn’t enough to escape detection from police for one Las Cruces man.

Las Cruces Police said Arthur M. Orozco, 33, fled from authorities after he threatened to kill his wife and her children last week. He was found days later wearing a disguise.

It was late Sunday night when police said Orozco showed up at his estranged wife’s home uninvited on the 1900 block of North Solano. That’s when two got into an argument.

Police said while the woman went upstairs to check on her two children, Orozco armed himself with a small knife. Detectives believe that’s when Orozco threatened to kill her and her children.

Detectives said the woman managed to escape and call 911 while being chased by Orozco. Police found the woman at another site, but Orozco fled and was nowhere to be found. Police said Orozco is also suspected of slashing he woman’s tires on her vehicle that same evening.

Orozco was located Thursday around noon on the 900 block of east Madrid Avenue wearing a blond wig.

He was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. He is being held on a cash-only bond set at $100,000.
