ABC-7 Listens: 03.27.16
to criticism if you want to work in t-v. rick cabrera shares an example in abc-7 listens. i often tell my kids to have the job of a news anchor … you have to have a thick skin. because some people can be very critical. this week … and for the second straight week … i got a voicemail from the same unnamed viewer. he had some very choice words … first he insulted my intelligence and then my family. but around here we really do try to listen to what is important to our viewers. in this case the unidentified man is complaining about an abc-7 listens segment i did on the democratic and republican primaries. “now yo still haven’t explained to anybody why you didn’t even know how the texas primary system works because you are on record saying independents can’t vote in the primary.” so, did i say that independents couldn’t vote in the primary? let’s listen … “as far as independents … you’ll get your chance to vote for them during the general election in november. what we just experienced was the democratic and republican primaries … it’s put on by those parties and it’s not meant for independents.” clearl i did not say … independents can’t vote in the primary … independents can vote at any time. i was actually referring to 2 things … independent candidates don’t appear on the ballot until november. and … while independents certainly can vote in a primary … by voting in either the democratic or republican primary you agree to the following oath when you submit your ballot. the top of the republican primary ballot reads … “i am republican and understand that i am ineligible to vote or participate in another political party’s primary election or convention during this voting year.” the democratic ballot reads the same way. and once that ballot is submitted you are marked as a republican or democrat for the current election cycle, and on the record — you’re not an independent anymore although at heart you may be. i welcome all your comments and critiques … good and bad … and if you have a question please don’t hesitate to reach out. call us or email us at k-v-i-a at k-v-i-a dot com. rick cabrera. abc-7 listens. it’s not good news for your baby’s
