Victims of violent crimes remembered
El Paso County District Attorney’s Office held the Annual Crime Victims memorial Ceremony Sunday, bringing together those affected by violent crime to pay tribute to victims
Victims were remembered as 1,554 names were read out loud Sunday morning at Yucca Park in East El Paso. Hundreds of friends and family came together to think of their loved ones. Each name was followed by a single chime.
One family was still mourning for their brother, Raul Robles, allegedly killed by his girlfriend two years ago.
“He was a very kind person, an animal lover, adopted any animal you would see on the street.,” said Debra Garcia, his sister.
She says their loss hasn’t been easy.
“It’s a bumpy road, difficult, but as a family we’ve been able to pull together and we’ve been dealing with it,” Garcia said.
One of the worst parts, she says, is not having had closure.
“We’re still in court, so, that doesn’t make it no easier,” she explained.
However it’s events like this that help out in the hardest times, knowing they’re not alone
“It’s a good support system, it’s something really nice that they do to remember our lost ones that we’ve lost, and we really enjoy coming out here every year,” Garcia said.
They’ll have to wait another year to hear that bell ring for his name again.
“It makes us feel good to know he’s not forgotten, remembered.
“You never know how long you have with somebody, life is short,” Garcia said.
Raul Robles would have turned 33 this month.
