Funeral services set for Sammie Aguilar

Funeral services have been set for the 16-year-old girl who died when she was thrown from a carnival ride during the weekend.

Samantha “Sammie” Aguilar died from her injuries at Del Sol Medical Center on Saturday evening. She was at a Dia De Los Nios carnival at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 10970 Bywood Drive in East El Paso.

Aguilar and two other girls were riding the “Sizzler” when she and another girl were ejected. The other girls were not seriously injured.

The visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday at Funeraria Del Angel-Martin East funeral home, 1460 George Dieter Dr.

The funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr Church, 1700 George Dieter. A burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery-East.

Aguilar was on the Hank High School track-and-field team. She was also in the top 10 percent of her class.
