Deadly Private Road in Far East El Paso
teenager killed in a wreck in far east el paso. she is 18- year-old destinee ochoa. she was killed just before midnight saturday on the13- thousand block of jobe road. the sheriff’s office reports four teens were riding in a jeep when the driver misjudged a turn. the jeep rolled off the road into the desert. the other three teens were hurt but survived. saturday’s deadly crash is the second to happen on jobe road in the last six months. the road is privately owned by cemex and is not designed for public use. but people use the road anyway. tonuight, we have abc-seven reporter evan folan looking into what… if anything… can or will be done. he is live in our studio “b with what he’s found. take a look at jobe robe… these two sharp turns would be tough enough to take during the day – but imagine going around these in the dark of night – without any street lights to guide you. the county is saying something needs to be done to make this road safe! “it wasnt designed to accommodate high speeds it was designed to accommodate cement trucks” a dangerous road an something needs to be done to keep more people from getting hurt or even killed. that’s one one el paso county leader is telling us after another deadly crash on jobe road this weekend. “m prayers go out to this family and for those that were loss in this accident and those currently in the hospital” investigators say both deadly crashes on jobe road were caused by drivers who took the sharp turn way too fast. “you know turns are probably unconventional if we were to build them you know if the city or county were to build them” the private road is lacking street lights, warning signs and a speed limit sign. “much of the traffic is using this private road because there are no alternative routes to get north or south in far east el paso county” the county plans on meeting with cemex to create a plan. “we are going to see what if anything can be done to work with cemex “whether they can install traffic calming measures, warning signs or perhaps the road can be closed off for certain times.’ but for now, the county hopes one project will divert traffic away from the private road. “the greg and edgmere extension which should be complete if not this year early next year” whic will connect far east el paso to the montana vista community. i called cemex to see if they have any future plans to work on making jobe road safer – but i am still waiting for a response. abc-seven worked over the weekend to
