Based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem, “Fiddler on the Roof” tells the story of a poor milkman who cares for his five daughters. While he and the rest of the elders in the village are deeply rooted in tradition, his daughters’ forward thinking clashes with his principles and causes a rift in the family. It features iconic and beloved songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were A Rich Man” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker.”

‘The Explorers Club’ — No Strings Theatre Company presents the madcap comedy by Nell Benjamin May 6-22 at Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Downtown Mall in Las Cruces. Directed by Algernon D’Ammassa. A witty spoof of all those bold Victorian adventurers who ravaged foreign lands and annihilated indigenous cultures in the name of science. The play is set in a stuffy, men-only club for explorers and scientists in Victorian London. Their world is brought to chaos when a woman scientist is proposed for membership, and she brings an aboriginal companion who rouses the ire of the Queen herself. The club is also set upon by an angry mob of Tibetan monks and a former colleague on a mission of vengeance.

The story unfolds when a dead newborn baby is found in a wastepaper basket in a convent. Dr. Martha Livingston is appointed by the court to determine if the young novice, Agnes, is psychologically fit to be tried. The drama follows discussions between Dr. Livingston, Mother Superior Miriam Ruth, and the therapy sessions with Agnes.
Hot Springs Festival — The festival celebrating alternative medicine, healthy lifestyles and sustainable living is May 13-15 in Downtown Truth or Consequences, N.M. featuring hot spring tours, workshops, live music, vendors, classes, and more. Military Appreciation Day — City of Alamogordo’s 39th annual Military Appreciation Day is 9 a.m. t 6 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Griggs Sports Complex, 3000 N.
