McGregor, Mayweather Jr. fuel speculation about a possible fight
Floyd Mayweather says a fight with UFC star Conor McGregor is “possible,” but added speculation is based solely on rumors he started.
Mayweather made his comments to FightHype.com in Las Vegas before the Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan fight.
“It’s possible. There was a name that was shot at me,” Mayweather said in video posted by FightHype.com. “It may not be a rumor. Keep your fingers crossed. It may be a boxer versus an MMA fighter. So we just don’t know.”
Rumor of the fight were fueled by U.K. tabloid “The Sun,” which suggested the fight was close to being made.
Yahoo Sports reports UFC president, Dana White, quickly shot down reports of the fight.
