New Mexico baby boy severely injured; Mother wanted for questioning
Doa Ana County Sheriff’s detectives are searching for the mother of a nine-month-old baby boy after the infant reportedly suffered injuries that sent him to a trauma center, said detectives Monday.
According to a report, the boy’s mother, 23-year-old Monique Rojas, took the boy to Memorial Medical Center May 8 but allegedly left the baby shortly after he was admitted. Detectives said because of the baby’s injuries, he had to be taken to a trauma center in El Paso.
Detectives want to speak with Rojas, but they said they have been unable to locate her. Family members told detectives the last contact they had with Rojas was on May 9. Rojas is currently on probation, which has since been revoked. A warrant for her arrest was issued last week.
Detectives said Rojas is known to frequent the Tortugas area south of Las Cruces. She has black hair and brown eyes and is described as five feet, four inches tall, weighing approximately 122 pounds.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s detective assigned to the case, (575) 525-8812. Information can also be relayed to the Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority, (575) 526-0795.
