EPISD arrest minor in connection with Coronado High School pellet gun shooting

EPISD police made the first of three arrests in connection with a pellet gun shooting targeting several Coronado High School students last month, district police said.

District Police Chief Victor Araiza said a 16-year-old Coronado student confessed to being involved in the shootings. The student was charged with Aggravated Assault, a second-degree felony.

The student’s name is not being released because he is a minor, Araiza said.

“We take all (situations) that compromise student safety seriously,” Araiza said.

The investigation continues and two more arrests are expected on Monday.

On April 4, three members of the Coronado cross country team told police they were shot at. An investigation revealed they were struck by pellets.

At the time, police said the pellet gun appeared to be fired from inside a moving car along the 6500 block of Cloudview, directly behind the Coronado campus.

A student was hit on the back and a pellet grazed the arm of another student. A third student was not harmed.

None of the injuries required medical attention.
