Las Cruces hosts hundreds of motorcyclists riding to Washington D.C.

Hundreds of veterans will be riding through the borderland Friday in the annual Run for the Wall.

The group of nearly 500 motorcyclists traveled from California and en route to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.

The riders were treated to breakfast in Las Cruces Friday morning at the American Legion Post 10 on Madrid Avenue.

The group will take part in ceremony at Veteran’s Park to pay tribute to veterans with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Vietnam Memorial.

Run for the Wall began back in 1989 when Vietnam veterans traveled across America to pay tribute to the thousands of men and women who are unaccounted for from all our wars. The tradition has continued every May.

The mission for riders who join Run for the Wall is to promote healing among all veterans, to call for an accounting of all prisoners of war and those missing in action, to honor those killed in action and to support military personnel all over the world.

The riders are expected to arrive at the nation’s capital on Memorial Day.
