Dickerson extends hitting streak to 24 as Chihuahuas win in 12 innings

DES MOINES, Iowa – The El Paso Chihuahuas scored three runs in the top of the 12 th inning to beat the Iowa Cubs 6-3 Thursday afternoon in El Paso’s longest game of the season. The Chihuahuas won three of four in Des Moines, taking a series from the I-Cubs for the first time in team history. The Chihuahuas are now 3-0 in extra inning games this year.

Manuel Margot hit the second pitch of the game over the left field wall, his third homer of the season, to give the Chihuahuas a 1-0 lead. It was the first time a Chihuahuas player led off a game with a home run since Abraham Almonte in Sacramento on May 1, 2015.

Alex Dickerson celebrated his 26 th birthday by hitting a solo home run on the first pitch of the top of the fourth, making the score 2-0 El Paso and extending his hitting streak to 24 games, the longest in Minor League Baseball this season.

Later in the game, with the score tied 2-2 in the top of the eighth, Jabari Blash hit a two-out double off the left field wall to put El Paso in front 3-2. Iowa plated a run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score again.

The game remained tied until the top of the 12 th when Hunter Renfroe brought in a run on a fielder’s choice and Ryan Schimpf hit a two-run double after five consecutive foul balls. The Chihuahuas sent nine batters to the plate in the top of the 12 th on only one hit, taking advantage of three walks and a hit by pitch.
