The city reminds residents to rinse out trash, recycling bins

The city of El Paso is asking residents to help reduce odors from trash and recycling bins.

The Environmental Services Department is asking people to rinse out their containers on a regular basis.

High temperatures increase trash odors, which can become a nuisance, officials said. Chapter 9 of the El Paso City Code requires residents to maintain their trash and recycling bins in a “clean and nuisance-free condition.”

Garbage placed in gray trash bins should always be bagged. Recyclable material placed in blue recycling bins should not be bagged, except for shredded paper and plastic bags. The lids for each bin should always be completely closed .

Customers who need their bins repaired or replaced should contact the Environmental Services Department by dialing 311.
