Electrical short creates problems for residents in East El Paso

Electrical crews caused more problems for residents in East El Paso after trying to replace a transformer on Thursday.

El Paso Electric hired a subcontractor to assist in replacing an overloaded transformer, but crews crossed wires, causing a short, which caused electrical damage to at least five homes.

Residents have reported damages to electrical systems, major appliances and air conditioning units.

El Paso Electric officials say they have crews working on repairing the damage. The utility company has started taking the steps to make repairs, replace appliances and provide accommodations needed until repairs can be made.

Five claims have been made according to a spokesman for El Paso Electric. There is no estimated time for the repairs.
