Bliss official identifies soldiers allegedly involved in smuggling ring

A report out of Washington states federal investigators are looking into a smuggling ring involving Fort Bliss soldiers.

Investigative Reporter Sharyl Attkisson reports two soldiers were arrested in the Rio Grande Valley with two undocumented immigrants in their vehicle over the weekend.

ABC-7 has confirmed with Fort Bliss spokesman Mike Brantley, the soldiers are SPC Joseph Edmond Cleveland, 25; and PFC Marco Antonio Nava Jr., 19.

ABC-7 also confirmed both soldiers are being held by Homeland Security in Houston.

Attkinson reports the soldiers were caught at the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint Saturday on their way to Houston.

According to her report, one of the soldiers told investigators it’s not the first time he’s done it and more soldiers at Fort Bliss are involved.

“We can confirm they are both assigned to the 377 transportation company here; however, as this is an ongoing investigation we cannot comment further,” said Brantley.
