Officer involved shooting

a couple miles away from officer chavez’s funeral service this afternoon – there was a robbery which ended in a deadly officer involved shooting. las cruces police say it happened at around 5:30 on lohman avenue right above the 1-25 overpass abc-7’s jamie warren spoke with the las cruces police department.. she is live from our new mexico mobile newsroom. jamie? evan and josie, las cruces police spokesman dan trujillo tel trujillo tells us the suspect had a knife in his hands when he confronted three officers. that’s when they shot at him. police say the suspect was then transported to the hospital, where he later died. thunder map trujillo says the entire ordeal started here near the 1300 block of lohman avenue. he says a store reported a robbery and that someone stole a white pick up truck. then an hour and a half later, trujillo says officers found the truck parked on the lohman avenue. that’s when he says the suspect confronted them and was shot and killed. our new mexico mobile newsroom was there as the entire street was taped off and numerous investigators we’re actively working the scene. “dan trujillo lcpd spokesma 4:46:12 the driver of the vehicle stopped the vehicle directly on lohman avenue directly above i 25 exited the vehicle was armed with a knife and there were shots fired and the suspect was hit at least once he was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries ” trujillo says no officers were hurt. we still don’t have the identity of the suspect who was killed. trujillo says police are still investigating exactly what happened and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call police at 526-0795 trujillo also tells abc7 if the investigation determines the officer did indeed fire a gun, they will be placed on administrative leave as protocol back to the service for the slain
