Chihuahuas win Wednesday and later clinch division title

The El Paso Chihuahuas shut out the Las Vegas 51s, 5-0, Wednesday night and won the Southern Division title 20 minutes later when Salt Lake beat Albuquerque in Salt Lake City. It is the second straight division championship for the Chihuahuas, who will face the Northern Division champion in Game 1 of the playoffs onWednesday, September 7at Southwest University Park.

Auston Bousefield started El Paso’s scoringWednesdaywith a solo home run to left field in the second inning, his first Triple-A homer. Hunter Renfroe’s 29 th home run of the season sailed over the right field wall in the third inning, a two-run shot to make it 3-0. El Paso added two more runs in the sixth on a wild pitch with a runner at third and a pinch-hit RBI double by Nick Torres.

Carlos Pimentel pitched five shutout inningsWednesdayto earn his 12 th win of the season and Eric Yardley, Jose Torres and Jason Jester followed with scoreless relief outings. It was El Paso’s ninth shutout win of the year.
