Community raising money to help slain officer’s family

The Alamogordo community is pulling together to raise money for the family of fallen officer Clint Corvinus.

Police said Corvinus was shot and killed while pursuing Joseph Moreno, who had three warrants out for his arrest, Friday morning.

Residents who live in a nearby mobile home park witnessed the shooting. They’re now reminded of the tragedy every time they look out their backyards. One woman who spoke with ABC-7 said the memory is still vivid.

“I looked out the back door and I saw somebody running so I went to my bedroom window and I looked out just in time to see the officer kind of reel back and I realized he had been shot and he fell to the ground,” she said. “That was traumatic enough but it’s very hard for me to look out my bedroom window. I’ve closed my blinds so I don’t see it cause it’s just a reminder of what I saw.”

A prayer vigil will be held to remember the fallen officer Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Otero County Fair Grounds.

Corvinus’ funeral will be held Saturday 10 a.m. at the Tay’s Center in Alamogordo.

According to the Alamogordo Police Department’s Facebook page, an account has been set up at Western Bank to benefit the family of Officer Corvinus. They are located at 500 Ninth Street.

Local businesses are also pitching in. In a Facebook post, Rockin BZ Burger, a popular Alamorgordo restaurant, says it will be holding a benefit September 12 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. All proceeds will go to Corvinus’ family.
