field of study that is changing the way students think and learn. we are talking about science, technology, engineering and math– or stem. now the district is recognized for its efforts. good morning el paso’s denise olivas is live with the story … denise? last year– canutillo isd started project lead the way. not only to attract more students to the stem field– but to also be recgonized by the texas education agency. project lead the way has been successful because canutillo high school is now a texas science, technology, engineering and mathematics academy. the school had to apply for this designation. canutillo high is now one of more than 120 schools in the state. juniors in this class worked on a robotics project when we dropped in. engineering teacher hector acosta says this is one of his advanced classes. when they work on projects like this one– he says students are forced to problem-solve on the spot: “there’s more rigor to it. th kids understand what they’re getting into and they buy into it. they really put their best effort.” the tea says offering rigorous programs like project lead the way shows a commitment to stem– which in return will prepare students for the future. other schools recognized over the summer as t-stem academies– franklin and ysleta. residents in san elizario have a huge
