Blue Mass honors local law enforcement
Texas has had more fallen law enforcement officers in its history than any other state in the U.S.
On Wednesday the Catholic Dioceses of El Paso honored and prayed for area law enforcement both past and present.
The public Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Cathedral on Campbell Street at 11am.
Katherine Perales, whose father passed away in 2013, was there to honor the fallen Immigration and Custom Enforcement agent.
“It’s real emotional, it makes us think about what happened and what we’ve been through,” Perales said.
Texas has had 1,880 fallen officers since it was admitted to the Union, more than any other state, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
El Paso lost an officer earlier this year when David Ortiz was killed March 14 while on duty. Ortiz, a motorcycle officer, was hit from behind. John Paul Perry has been accused of intentionally ramming his car into the officer.
