Police identify children killed in Lower Valley mobile home fire

The police department’s Crimes Against Person Unit (CAP) has identified the three children killed in a Lower Valley mobile home fire.

2-year-old Kayden Nathaniel Cervantes, 5-year-old Nyene Vela, and 7-year-old Jayden Vela died after their mobile home went up in flames.

Nyene and Jayden attended Lancaster Elementary school.

The fire erupted at about 6:30 p.m. September 23, 2016 on the 400 block of Newell Hays.

CAP and the Fire Marshal’s office continue their investigation.

An elderly man and another child inside the mobile home at the time of the fire managed to escape. Both have since been released from a hospital.

A memorial service will be held for the three victims at 6 p.m. Friday at the Martin Funeral Home on George Dieter.
