LCPD arrest suspect in The Verge Apartments shooting
Police arrested a teenager suspected in a September 24, 2016 shooting that injured a 20-year-old man at The Verge apartment complex.
Joshua Jones, 18, of the 3900 block of Lilac Drive, is charged with one count of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
The shooting happened shortly 1:30 a.m. at the apartment complex located at 320 E. Union Ave.
Detectives learned the victim and several other friends were at the apartment, having a party, late Friday evening into Saturday morning.
Sometime after 1 a.m. Saturday, Jones and a few other men arrived but were told the party was over and they were not allowed inside.
The 20-year-old man got into an argument with Jones and the group of men when he exited the apartment to ensure Jones and the other men had left the premises. Witnesses told detectives they heard multiple gunshots and discovered the 20-year-old man had been struck by gunfire.
Officers learned the victim was transported, by private vehicle, to Memorial Medical Center. He had injuries to both legs and his right arm. The man was later airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso, but has since been released.
An investigation revealed Jones was responsible for the shooting, police said.
Police arrested Jones Sunday, October 2, and booked him into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he’s currently being held on a $20,000 cash-only bond.
