Man charged after girl falls off his car and seriously injures head
Police arrested a man accused of taking off in a vehicle while two teenagers were hanging on to the car.
One of the teenagers suffered serious head injuries, police said.
22-year-old Omar Esparza is charged with Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury. On October 4, 2016, police booked him into the El Paso County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
Police said that on Saturday, October 1, 2016, Esparza got into an argument with a passenger in his car, a 16-year-old girl. Esparza allegedly refused to return some of the girl’s possessions, which were inside his vehicle.
As Esparza was leaving, the 16-year-old girl jumped onto the rear trunk of the car. A second passenger, an 18-year-old woman, jumped onto the vehicle’s front hood.
Police said Esparza sped up, slowed down, then stopped. The 16-year-old fell and hit her head on the 500 block of E. Mills. She sustained serious head injuries, police said.
The 18-year-old woman got off the hood and Esparza drove away, police said.
Esparza did return to the scene, but never exited his vehicle, police said.
