UPDATE: Alleged kidnapping was domestic dispute, Sunland Park police say
A recent attempted kidnapping turned out to be a domestic violence incident, Sunland Park police said Friday.
Police responded to reports of a man trying to kidnap a child from a stroller Sept. 28. A mother was walking with her two kids in a stroller when a man got out of an older black Ford F-150 parked on Nueces Drive. The man allegedly tried pulling one of the children from the stroller, but the mother fought off the man with an umbrella and screamed for help, police said.
Investigators determined that the victim made up the story story in an attempt to escape a domestic violence situation at home.
The Sunland Park Police Department urges victims of domestic abuse contact its non-emergency line at (575) 589-6600 or 911. The department has teamed up with other local agencies specializing in creating safer situations for domestic violence victims. The woman in this incident will get assistance.
