After 50 years of music, Dylan continues to inspire

Musician Bob Dylan visited the Sun City Wednesday and fans rejoiced at the man who’s inspired generations with his music and art.

Dylan performed in El Paso just days after being awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature for “having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

In his first television appearance in 1963, Dylan, born Robert Allen Zimmerman, stepped on stage and sang his way into hearts of millions.

“I would say he was the premiere songwriter of the 1960s,” said Utep Professor of Western Culture Bob Wren.

Wren has been following Dylan since he released his first album. “Gosh I heard that in 1963,” Wren said.

When Wren got wind Dylan was coming into town his first thought was: “Get tickets.”

Early in his career, Dylan was known for singing about social unrest and some songs became anthems for American civil rights and anti-war movements.

Through time many say it is Dylan’s constant reinvention that has kept generations of music fans listening to his folk -blues and rock.

“He has a master of styles and he goes from style to style,” Wren said.

A style that helped him gain one of the world’s top honors. “It made perfect sense to me when I heard, but it was a shock,” Wren said.

The Swedish Academy said Dylan was awarded the prize for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.

With Dylan now approaching his 80s fans like Wren say they expect him to continue releasing music.

“Forever, I hope he lives forever…forever young,” Wren said.

The Swedish Academy, presenters of the Nobel prize say they haven’t been in contact with Dylan himself. Adding they have not confirmed if he will be receive the award in December.
