PD: Man driving drunk had cocaine; tried taking officer’s taser

Police arrested a man accused of Driving While Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Cocaine, and Taking or Attempting to Take a Weapon from Peace Officer.

The arrest was made shortly before 2 a.m. Friday on the 1500 block of Zaragoza.

Ricardo Hurtado, 35, was driving a 2000 Acura TL north on Zaragoza at an alleged speed of 66 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone.

An officer with the DWI Task Force officer stopped Hurtado and allegedly found him to be intoxicated.

Police said Hurtado became confrontational as the officer attempted to take him into custody. Hurtado allegedly tried to punch the officer and take away the officer’s taser.

Hurtado also had four individually wrapped packages of cocaine on his person, police said.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on Bonds totaling $160,200.
